What Readers Are Sharing
Recent book reviews for Nabil Khouri’s The Young Terrorist. The book is a gripping memoir: Nabil Khouri’s journey from Arab militant to proud American.
" This is a compelling story about someone who in his youth was an Arab militant carrying a kalashnikov and chanting death to America and Israel. Through his mother’s love and his own ambition, and with the help of the US government, he graduated from a US college, married an American and became a successful engineer."

" This book is engrossing. Nabil helps the reader understand war from the mind of a child and adolescent living in a mix of cultural forces. And as a soccer player, soldier, stock clerk and engineering student who loves to cook and deeply respects his mother. He is threatened, almost killed and also saved by his allies as well as his enemies. Nabil's war experience crosses national borders and drives him to seek safety, food, shelter and advancement in different nations. Nabil's unique story helps illuminate the universal experience of all those who survive the horrific human disaster of wars."

"This was an enthralling story of evolution from a child's radicalized view of the world to a young man's survival against difficult odds. The Middle Eastern drop back is still relevant even to this day, as the struggle for nationhood in Israel, among Palestinians and neighboring Arab states endures.
The young man in this story is endearing as well as admirable, while the tale can be disturbing, it exposes realities and experiences of many immigrants. In this book you will find the promise of democracy and what America has to offer. I recommend this read to everyone."
