In DADDY’S GIRL, Michael Schnabel shares an intimate view of a family’s love, relationships, and parenting during a crisis. Growing out of raw and eloquent expression of daily events in his journals, the author’s memoir draws readers into the phases of pain and confusion related to his daughter’s diagnosis, as well as the grit, faith, and medical triumphs that (spoiler alert) gave her the ability to live with only an 8% chance of survival.

In each person’s life there are events that forever change their course. Twenty-seven-year-old Stephanie experienced two of these events in fourteen days; the birth of her only child and discovery that she had an eight percent chance of living. She is haunted by the thought that this baby will only know her through pictures until that becomes her motivation to survive.

At the time, Mike Schnabel though the best way to capture the courage and essence of his daughter–to pass this on to her newborn child–would be to record what was happening, what they said, and how they felt. He could not have imagined the powerful thoughts, emotions, science, and spiritual energy that ended up supporting his daughter’s commitment to living.
